Philosophy
Our practice is guided by a commitment to design excellence and experimentation, attentiveness to our client’s mission, and a deep connection to the material culture in the places we work.
Design Excellence and Experimentation
DIGSAU is a thought leader and the recipient of over eighty design awards from the American Institute of Architects, Urban Land Institute, and the Brick Industry Association, among other organizations. In addition, our firm has been recognized for exemplary design practice with the 2017 AIA Pennsylvania Firm Award and the 2013 Emerging Voices award from the Architectural League of New York.
Mission-Driven Practice
Working with mission-driven clients is fundamental to our practice—from our earliest work with The Challenge Program and People’s Emergency Center to our most recent partnerships with municipal agencies like ReBuild Philadelphia and non-profit institutions devoted to art, education, exploration, physical wellness, and more. Often our design process involves building awareness of complex issues and gaining consensus among multiple constituents—relational skills we have developed over many projects and decades of practice.
Material Culture
Strong materiality is a common thread for us and the way we connect people and place. Our projects are informed by geology, agriculture, urban, social, and natural history, and a profound appreciation for the rich tradition of materials and building techniques throughout the world.
